Aster the Spirit Talker

What if the animals of the forest could speak… and they chose you to save their world?

Ten-year-old Aster Finlay has just moved into a house surrounded by woods, wildlife, and whispering trees. She’s always loved nature—she just never expected a tiny chickadee to speak her name.

Drawn into a secret world beneath the forest, Aster discovers that the connection between humans and nature—known as the Great Élan—has shattered. Animals no longer trust people. The earth is growing weaker. And an ancient role called the Guiding Spirit must return… or everything will break forever.

According to Poe, a wise chickadee, and Hamilton, a devoted groundhog, Aster might be the one they’ve been waiting for.

But not everyone wants the Great Élan restored.

Mara, a powerful mole with her own dark vision for the forest, will do anything to keep humans and nature divided—even if it means destroying the last hope the woods have left.

Armed with bravery she isn’t sure she has, Aster must learn to trust herself, listen deeply, and stand up for a world worth saving.

Aster the Spirit Talker is a heartfelt, hope-filled fantasy adventure about courage, friendship, and the quiet magic all around us—if we choose to listen.

I love the idea behind this story. If I had a super-power I think talking to animals would be at the top of my list. Although she can talk to animals, Aster isn’t without flaws. She starts out with fears to overcome and with the help of friends she makes progress. This is a great message for any middle grader.
